Poker is a card game in which players wager money against other players. The game may be played in a variety of ways, but the basic rules are the same: each player places forced bets (usually an ante and\/or a blind bet) and then is dealt cards. The players then make bets according to their expectations of the strength of their hands. The winner is the person with the highest-ranking hand. Players may also bluff, in which case they bet that they have a strong hand even though they do not.<\/p>\n
The game can be played with two to 14 or more players. In games with more than ten players, there is usually a central pot consisting of the bets made by all players. The amount of money placed into the pot is determined by the individual player\u2019s choice to place bets based on expected value, game theory, psychology, and other factors. In addition to the initial forced bets, players may also add voluntarily-placed bets for strategic reasons.<\/p>\n
The skill level of a player\u2019s decisions is often much more important than the quality of his or her hand.
